After a long hiatus, and a LOT of things happening in the past few months, I’m back to posting on my site. I guess the first thing I should probably write about is our wedding… which took place at the Disney Wedding Pavilion in November of last year. It’s something we’d dreamed about since we first started going to Disney together, and we were lucky enough to make it happen. We wanted to keep the wedding small, with only immediate family and some very close friends, so there was only around 26 people at the wedding, including our little nieces and nephew.
What an event. First off, absolutely everybody had to fly in, and mostly from overseas. Sandra’s family flew in from Portugal and the Azores, my family flew in from Bermuda, and Scotland, and our guests flew in from everywhere between Bermuda and Denmark! Most of our guests stayed at Port Orleans French Quarter and we decided to stay at The Grand Floridian. Both are amazing resorts, and both I’d definitely recommend, and would stay at again in a heart beat. (That being said, The Grand is pretty pricey, so I dont see us staying there all that often). We were made to feel special every single day, and every time we walked in the door.
We had a few days leading up to the wedding, but due to our commitments (tux fitting, rehearsal etc) we wanted to keep plans pretty open and free. We do this when we go to Disney anyway, and have found it’s the best approach. Basically, it’s “hey do whatever you want to do today, we’re going to be here, and here, if you want to meet up, come join us, if you want to do your own thing, that’s awesome too, just make sure you have fun” That was the only ‘rule’ we imposed on our guests… have fun. That’s what Disney’s about isnt it?
And boy did we have fun, getting Sandra’s dad, and my brother in law Tim on Expedition Everest was by far one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen. It was their first roller coaster ever (I think), (not to mention the first time her parents and Tim had ever been to Disney).
The day of the wedding came up super quick. I was up at 4:30 in the morning, (i dont sleep well if Sandra’s not with me) and paced and drank coffee until 7, when I took advantage of extra magic hours and went to rope drop at the Magic Kingdom. It was great to see, but it definitely wasnt as much fun without Sandra. Heck, even riding Big Thunder Mountain, wasnt nearly as fun as it is with Sandra…
My best man Spencer, rocked up at about 11, and, as we are guys, we managed to get dressed and ready in about 10 minutes (vs Sandra who had been up since the butt-crack of dawn… heheheh). It was also the first time I’d got to meet Nate, half of Root Photography, our photographers (Jensey, is his amazing wife and co-photographer). PS, we couldnt be happier with the Roots, from minute one, they were amazing to be around, are amazing photographers, and I think we have made to very close life long friends.
We headed down to the lobby, took a bunch of photos and headed out to our limo…. oh ya, it was a stretch.. and our drivers name was Solo… as in Han…. the biggest scariest, but nicest guy I’ve met… totally felt like he was secret service and driving us in a presidential convoy…..
Meanwhile, Sandra and her sisters arrived at the Grand with Jensey, for their pre ceremony photos…. the countdown was on… we were a short drive and about a half hour away from getting married….
